Claude Monet's late painting "Wisteria"

Claude Monet painted Wisteria (1919–20) in the last years of his life, just as he turned 80. Wisteria was acquired by the Allen in 1960 at the urging of Oberlin art historian Ellen Johnson, whose final research project, more than two decades later, would address the concept of “late work.” The program begins with a gallery talk by Andrea Gyorody, Ellen Johnson ’33 Assistant Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, and continues in the Print Study Room with Curatorial Assistant Emma Laube ’17, with a viewing of related works. Presented in conjunction with Oberlin’s “End of Life, End of Time” festival. The session is capped at 25 participants.
