Sven Haakanson Jr., PhD, associate professor in the Department of Anthropology and curator of North American Anthropology at the Burke Museum, University of Washington, will give the annual Jack Glazier Endowed Anthropology Lecture.

His topic, "Repatriation of Knowledge: From Rare Museum Models to a Full Sized Angyaaq."

Through a repatriation of knowledge, awareness and voices, indigenous communities have been actively engaged with museum collections from their communities and have been taking and putting this knowledge back into a living context.

For over 20 years Prof. Haakanson has had the privilege to be part of this repatriation of knowledge, working with museum collections and the Sugpiat community of Alaska’s Kodiak Archipelago.

He will share examples of what this means and how it has empowered and impacted his community to take ownership of this knowledge once again.

Reception to follow lecture.
