Guidelines for Requesting Alternate Media

Textbooks and other course materials can be made available in alternate formats (electronic files, Braille, enlarged text, etc.) with due notice (THREE weeks MINIMUM) to Disability Resources. Students will be asked to fill out a form with their request. Students can stop in the office any time during business hours to fill out the request form.

Disability Resources has access to a high-speed scanner and text-conversion system. Single-page scanners are available for student use in the Adaptive Technology Laboratory (Mudd 204). STUDENTS SHOULD NOTE THAT DUE TO COPYRIGHT LAWS THEY MUST BRING PROOF OF PURCHUSE OF ALL TEXTBOOKS REQUEIRED. IN THE EVENT THAT THE BOOK IS HARD TO FIND, STUDENT SHOULD NOTE THAT THEY MUST PURCHUSE THE BOOK, DISABILITY RESOURCES WILL NEED TO CUT THE BINDING OF THE BOOK OFF AND SCAN THE TEXT. ALTHOUGH WE CAN GENERALLY REBIND THE BOOK STUDENTS SHOULD NOTE THAT IT MOST LIKELY WILL NOT BE IN A CONDITION THAT IT CAN BE SOLD BACK.
