Message from the Conservatory Deans Office (March 12, 2020)
March 12, 2020 4:00 PM
Dear Conservatory students,
I write to follow up on the recent announcement that all scheduled on-campus activities will end as of Friday, March 13, and that campus will close effective Monday, March 16.
As indicated in this announcement, all students are expected to vacate campus as of noon on Monday (March 16).
Access to facilities
We understand that some individuals, due to circumstances beyond their control, will be unable to return home.
The Conservatory will be closed to students effective Monday, March 16, at noon. Starting next week, students who must remain in Oberlin will need permission from the Conservatory Dean’s Office to access Conservatory facilities.
We will send additional information in the coming days regarding the procedures for requesting permission.
In the meantime, we urge everyone to focus on wrapping up your classes tomorrow and packing up your belongings and emptying out your locker over the weekend, so that you can vacate campus by Monday.
Recitals scheduled for the remainder of the semester
We know that many of you have Junior and Senior recitals scheduled for the period from Saturday, March 14, through the end of the semester.
All on-campus recitals and other performances from Saturday, March 14, through the end of the semester will be canceled.
Please know that this cancellation will not negatively affect your ability to graduate or progress through your degree.
The Conservatory faculty and administration are working actively to find solutions for Junior and Senior Recitals and other degree requirements scheduled to take place this semester. We will communicate information and plans as they develop, and we encourage you to be in touch with your studio teachers and the Conservatory Dean’s Office with questions.
Thank you, everyone.
Yours,
William Quillen, Dean
P.S. Conservatory Dean’s Office staff will be in the office (Bibbins 113) from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, and Sunday, March 15, to answer questions. Additionally, you may return borrowed instruments to Con Dean’s Office staff at this time.
