Ryo (she/her) is a senior double-majoring in math and economics with a concentration in education studies and a minor in linguistics. She grew up in Japan, Vietnam, and Tunisia, and grew up bilingual, receiving education in Japanese and English. She has worked in the admissions office since the spring semester of her first year as a tour guide, interviewer, international admissions intern, and now as a Senior Fellow.
Outside of her work in the admissions office, Ryo is also a Peer Advising Leader, supporting incoming students, and a Writing Associate, working in the writing center on campus. She has also been a Japanese conversation tutor and student assistant in the International Student Resource Center since her first year. In the past, she has been involved with the Oberlin Arts and Sciences Orchestra, Japanese Student Association, International Organization, and planning of the Asian Night Market on campus.
Ryo hopes to pursue a career in education, particularly working with multilingual students and Third Culture Kids, who live between cultures. She has developed her passion for education and teaching through the classes at Oberlin, which provided her with both theoretical and pedagogical knowledge and experiences.
