Kate (she/her) is a fourth-year student with a triple major in Creative Writing, Cinema Studies, and English, and a minor in Book Studies. She grew up around Tampa Bay and calls Indianapolis home when not in Oberlin. She has been part of the Oberlin Admissions Team since the fall semester of her first year, beginning as an ambassador — tacking on tour guide and Campus Visit Assistant — and now finishing out her Oberlin career as a Senior Fellow.
In addition to sharing her love of Oberlin in the Admissions Office, outside of class Kate can be found zoom-tutoring math and ELA to K-12 students in her hometown or heading up Oberlin’s Experimental College (ExCo) as chair of the department. She has served on the ExCo Committee since her sophomore year and has found unique opportunities through the program — including teaching a class of her own on the Percy Jackson books! Always seeking to learn more skills and find new pockets of the world, Kate has taken up many hobbies while at Oberlin including pottery, ultimate frisbee, and circus arts. In her free time, you can find her playing board games with friends, stocking up on peanut butter cookies from Blue Rooster, writing sappy poetry in Tappan, performing with Vibe Dance Company, or curled up with a Slow Train London Fog Latte and a good book.
After graduation, Kate hopes to travel, earn her MFA in Creative Writing, and hike all 64 National Parks — not necessarily in that order! Drawn to the College for its passionate professors and free-flowing liberal-arts model education, Kate’s time at Oberlin has solidified her desire to pursue a career in storytelling, whatever form that may take.
