Blackboard is Oberlin College’s course management software. Faculty routinely use Blackboard (Bb) to provide course materials for students to access anytime via the web, provide interactive study guides, develop discussion boards, implement online quizzes, send e-mail to students in courses, and more.
The Blackboard product expanded from a basic Course Management System (CMS) to the Blackboard Academic Suite, combining a Learning System (previously the CMS), a Community System, and a Content System.
The Learning System provides enhanced capabilities in Instructional Support (course management, syllabus builder, content authoring, teaching and learning tools, learning units), Communication (discussion board, group projects, virtual classroom/collaboration tool), and Assessment (assessments and surveys, assignments, gradebook, reporting and performance dashboard).
Blackboard is managed by CIT’s Center for Technologically Enhanced Teaching or OCTET.
