Career Development Summer Series

Text over a bright floral background reads: "Career Development Center Summer Series."

The 2021 Career Development Summer Series helped Oberlin students prepare for future career opportunities from on- or off-campus.

Summer Series sessions covered the following topics:

  • The Career Development Center’s online resources
  • Searching for and securing internships
  • Applying and succeeding in graduate school
  • Managing career-related stress
  • Keeping your resume and LinkedIn profile up to date

A special session for rising seniors helped seniors prepare and plan for their final chapter at Oberlin while looking ahead to life after graduation.

Although the series has concluded, many of the sessions were recorded and can be viewed through the below playlist.

The Career Development Center offers many online resources available to you as an Oberlin student to help meet your career development needs.  Meet the CDC staff and learn about the online resources available to Oberlin students through the Career Development Center.

For those planning to attend graduate school, the insight of those who have attended graduate school is valuable in searching for graduate schools, securing admission, and succeeding as a graduate student.  Hear Obie alumni share their experiences with grad school from the application process to graduation.  There will also be time for discussion and questions for the panelists.

Join Oberlin alumni for an informal networking event that will help you practice your networking skills while connecting with alumni from Oberlin's 50th Reunion Class. Alumni from all of our Career Community areas will be available, and students will be able to move freely between communities.

IRT helps people committed to social justice and diversity apply to MA or PhD programs in the Arts, Humanities, Education or Social  Sciences. IRT participants receive application fee waivers, discounted GRE prep, and 1:1 personalized counseling around the graduate school application process, for free.

Interested candidates can learn more by joining this webinar, hosted by Monica Reum, Recruitment and Admission Program Specialist at IRT. For any questions, email mreum@andover.edu.

Internships are a great way to explore a career field of interest. Join us to learn the steps to search for, secure, and successfully complete an internship. Hear current Obie interns discuss their experiences with summer internships and learn about the resources provided by the Career Development Center.  There will also be time for discussion and questions for the panelists.

We face stress in many areas of our lives, and our career is no exception. Applying for internships, deciding how to spend summers, and planning for the future commonly cause stress.  This session will introduce strategies to manage and cope with career-related stress.

As you network and continue seeking new opportunities, it is important to keep your resume and LinkedIn profile up to date.  During this session, Career Development Center staff will review how to update your resume and LinkedIn profile with your most recent experiences.

This session is for rising seniors. Throughout your time at Oberlin, you have had many accomplishments and experiences that have already become part of your story.  Your senior year will be another chapter in your story, and these sessions will provide you with support and a timeline for career development and planning so that you are ready to launch successfully from Oberlin.
