Biography

Bridget Flynn joined the Oberlin College Office of Environmental Sustainability in July 2012. She interacts with the administration, faculty, staff, students, and wider communities to focus attention on ways to maximize the environmental performance, social equity, and economic viability of Oberlin College. Bridget is instrumental in coordinating sustainability programming -- from recycling to bicycling to conservation -- and providing a connection between Oberlin and regional and national activities. Bridget also oversees the OES internship program where she harnesses the terrific energy and passion of a team of five to ten students.

Bridget graduated cum laude from Indiana University (IU) in December 2011 with bachelor degrees with distinction in Environmental Ethics and Religious Studies, and a minor in Sociology. Following graduation, Bridget worked in marketing at Nordex, an international wind energy company in Chicago.

She was employed at the IU Office of Sustainability (IUOS) as the Sustainability and the First Year Experience Coordinator. At IUOS, Bridget organized and led the first sustainability pre-orientation trip for incoming freshmen. She also implemented the Green Room Certification Program, which encourages sustainable living in residence halls. During college, Bridget was a residence hall tour guide and volunteered with an amazing, sustainable food pantry, Mother Hubbard's Cupboard. She also co-ran Indy Vegans, a vegan community group in Bloomington and Indianapolis, that published an educational website and hosted events.

Bridget serves on the City of Oberlin’s Resource Conservation Recovery Commission, speaks nationally on sustainability topics, is a figure bodybuilder, and enjoys riding bikes with and without motors.
