Uzawa Hisa and Uzawa Hikaru, mother and daughter actors from Tokyo’s Kanze School of Noh, will perform excerpts from the Japanese Noh plays Atsumori and Hagoromo. One of the first women to act as a lead shite performer in a traditional Noh lineage, Hisa has been designated a “cultural treasure” by the Japanese government. She and her daughter will introduce the 650-year-old tradition of music, dance, and acting that lies at the heart of the Noh theater.
