BA, sociology, Rutgers University

Anna Phung was born in Richmond, Virginia, but considers themselves a Jersey Shore native. They graduated in 2014 from Rutgers University earning a BA in sociology. Their passion for student affairs stems from their undergraduate experiences working with different offices on campus, specifically with the Center for Social Justice Education and LGBT Communities and the Asian American Cultural Center, where they learned the importance of strengthening student development through engagement, creating authentic and intentional programming, connecting students with supportive services, and building sustained dialogues.

After graduating, Phung continued their work at the Center for Social Justice Education and LGBT Communities as interim program coordinator and transitioned to program assistant at the Institute for Women’s Leadership in the same institution before coming to Oberlin.

Phung has particular interests in facilitating conversations on first-gen experiences, anti-racism, and building thriving queer and trans spaces.

In their spare time, they like to organize board game hangouts, take photographs, and enjoy spending time either by themselves or with other people. They are extremely excited and looking forward to engaging in and building with the Oberlin community.
