There are four committees of the Oberlin Alumni Association. Appointment to these committees is determined by the Leadership Development Committee of the Alumni Leadership Council. These are the Admissions Advisory Committee, Careers Support Committee, Annual Fund Advisory Board, and Trustee Search Committee. Members serve staggered three-year terms. Committee chairs are members of the Alumni Leadership Council. The President of the Alumni Association or designee is an ex officio member of all committees, except for the Trustee Search Committee.

Admissions Advisory Committee

The Admissions Advisory Committee provides guidance and support to the college’s Office of Admissions on the admissions process and facilitates the relationship between the Office of Admissions and the Alumni Association.

Committee Guidelines

The purpose of the Admissions Advisory Committee is to provide guidance and support to the College Office of Admissions on the admissions process and to facilitate the relationship between the Office of Admissions and the Alumni Association.

The committee works closely with the Office of Admissions to ensure the effectiveness of the Alumni Recruiting Network to encourage alumni involvement in recruiting applicants and promoting Oberlin among prospective students. The Admissions Advisory Committee acts as a liaison between alumni (including Alumni Admissions Recruiters and Admissions Recruiter Coordinators) and the Office of Admissions. The committee also works to ensure that other alumni committees and regional alumni organizations are informed about the admissions programs, and are given opportunities to assist the Admissions Recruiting Network.

In coordination with the Office of Admissions, the committee assists in selection of Alumni Recruiter Coordinators and in adopting policies for the Alumni Recruiting Network.

The Admissions Advisory Committee meets twice annually, once in the fall during Alumni Council weekend and once in the spring. At both meetings, the committee generally meets with the Directors of Admissions and the Office staff. At one or both meetings each year, the committee also meets separately from the Office of Admissions staff to evaluate its role and relationship with that Office.

The Admissions Advisory Committee consists of a chair and up to nine members, representing the diversity of the alumni body, who serve staggered three-year terms. Committee members are expected to participate in the Alumni Recruiting Network while serving on the committee. A chair is elected by the Alumni Council in accordance with established Alumni Association procedures, and reports the activities of the committee to the Executive Board and the Alumni Council on a regular basis.

As part of the agreement to serve on the Alumni Council, all committee members shall be required to make a financial contribution to the College annually to ensure 100% participation. Failure to make such an annual contribution shall be considered grounds for removal from the Council.

Careers Support Committee

The Careers Support Committee provides guidance and support to the college’s Career Center in its efforts to increase interactions between students and alumni for career-related issues and to facilitate the relationship between the Career Center and the Alumni Association.

Committee Guidelines

The purpose of the Career Services Advisory Committee is to provide guidance and support to the College Career Center in its efforts to increase interactions among students, faculty, and alumni for career-related issues and to facilitate the relationship between the Career Center and the Alumni Association. The committee will work to develop and strengthen an Oberlin network around the world, helping to enhance the lifelong community for students and alumni of Oberlin College.

The committee works closely with the Career Center to identify opportunities for increased interaction among students, faculty and alumni and to identify alumni volunteers to participate in programs as necessary. Examples of these interactions could include an annual Alumni-Student Exchange program during Alumni Council weekend, facilitating communications on Winter Term opportunities, identifying internship opportunities, addressing student housing needs, alumni serving as mentors to students, arranging alumni speakers/workshops, and providing support for job seekers and prospective employers. The committee also enhances regional programs by working to ensure that other alumni committees and regional alumni organizations are informed about the Career Center programs and are given opportunities to assist in these activities.

In coordination with the Career Center, the committee assists in selection of volunteers required to implement the programs and in adopting policies to oversee the activities of those volunteers.

The Career Services Advisory Committee meets twice annually, once in the fall during Alumni Council weekend and once in the spring. The chair may call additional telephone conference meetings at his/her discretion.

The Career Services Advisory Committee consists of a chair and up to six alumni members, representing the diversity of the alumni body, who serve staggered three-year terms. In addition, four student liaisons, representing the diversity of the student body, would be selected annually by the chair and the Director of the Career Center. Committee members are expected to participate in the activities jointly sponsored by the Career Center Office and the Alumni Association while serving on the committee. The chair is elected by the Alumni Council in accordance with established Alumni Association procedures and reports the activities of the committee to the Executive Board and the Alumni Council on a regular basis.

As part of the agreement to serve on the Alumni Council, all committee members shall be required to make a financial contribution to the College annually to ensure 100% participation. Failure to make such an annual contribution shall be considered grounds for removal from the Council.
