Online Tools for Academic Advisors

The Academic Advising Resource Center offers a range of services and resources to help you advise students in their academic pursuits at Oberlin. Our staff will support your advising efforts as necessary in such areas as course selections and scheduling, academic and degree planning, registration and more.

Engage houses information about assigned advisees and students, including contact information, registration necessities, and current and past course information.

Degree Works is a comprehensive, web-based, academic advising and degree audit tool that helps students and their advisors successfully navigate curriculum requirements. This system allows for real-time academic advising, streamlined degree planning, and more.
 
Degree Works has a number of useful functions for students as they plan their academic courses.

OnBase is a document management system that speeds up decision-making while improving communication. OnBase integrates with our student information system, which enables the documents and data stored in OnBase to sync with our system of record.

Banner Self Service is available through corresponding tasks in OberView, the college’s mobile-responsive, online tool that serves as a gateway to the information that’s vital to life at Oberlin.

What advisors can do in Banner Self Service:

Perhaps the most useful is the Advisor Services Task Center in OberView. You may select various tasks to view information. Generally, however, the most commonly used options on this page are:

  • Advisee List
  • Academic transcript
  • Student information
  • Final and Midterm grades
  • Degree Works
  • Holds
  • SAT and ACT test scores
  • Registration consents
  • Class schedules
  • Barnes and Noble Textbook Wizard

The Student Support Request form provides a way to express concern for students, connect them with resources, and support their well-being and academic success. Any member of the Oberlin community, including faculty, staff, and students, may submit a support request; the form is also open to parents/guardians, family members, and others off campus. The form is available through OberView.

A VPN is a virtual private network. It is a connection between Oberlin’s programs and your home or off-campus computer that will allow you to access Banner, PRESTO, Degree Works, AdviseStream, and other Oberlin sites while you are off campus.

You will need to use your Obie ID and password to sign in each time you connect to the VPN.
