Many of the things that people throw away can be salvaged and put to all kinds of uses! Here are some possible uses for things commonly found in trash:

WOOD:
*armatures for sculptures and puppets
*build/repair furnature with it
NEWSPAPERS:
*paper mache
*bedding for small animal cages
*costumes and masks
*tinder to get fires started
PAPER BAGS:
*stencil designs on it and use it as gift wrap
*paper mache
MAGAZINES:
*collages
*posters
*cut out pages and hang them up in your house or use them on your website
*you can cut out pictures and put them on anything with a layer of varnish
RANDOM THINGS:
*furniture can be rescued and refinished
*old sheets can be used for backdrops, big posters, quilting, or on your bed
*cement blocks and boards make great bookshelves
*sometimes people throw away the craziest things like computer chips or lawn mower parts. These can be great additions to art projects

 

 

Dumpsters are your friends..

For more effective scavenging, try to get a garbage route map from the city you live in. Some cities also do large scale pick-ups. IF YOU LIVE IN OBERLIN: Here is the schedule for trash collection:

DO NOT TAKE RECYCLABLE MATERIALS (BOTTLES, CANS, PLASTIC) FROM THE CURB. DO NOT OPEN TRASH CANS OR BAGS.
DO NOT MAKE A MESS.
