John Hobbs is from Minneapolis, though he's lived in Oberlin longer by now. He has two sons in their thirties, and his wife Jutta teaches German at Case-Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Since 1966 he has been teaching 20th-century poetry and fiction at Oberlin. Recent interests have led to first-year seminars in metaphor and dialogue. His main interests in modern Irish literature are Joyce, Yeats, and Heaney. He's currently writing a book on dialogue in Joyce's early fiction. Dublin is his home away from home. He spends a large part of the summer there, and has directed an Oberlin overseas study program in Irish literature. |
