Langston Middle School
Here I am, working on the computer. Surprise, Surprise!!!! I am a Special Education Teacher at Langston Middle School in Oberlin, Ohio. Given an opportunity the Special Education Student can become part of a regular education program. The students I teach have a deficit in one or more areas. However, Special Education students can learn to compensate and become productive members of the student body. Also many of my students have been accepted by their peers because of their special abilities in artistic programs.
I believe in a integrated and methodology of basic teaching skills and kinestic activities that enhance the Special Education classroom. Currently I am providing intervention and inclusion for the students in all academic areas.
One of the successful programs incorporated in my curriculum is The School To Work Program. Students are empowered to link academics with the real work force. Previous years students have visited Joint Vocational Schools to become aware of programs that are available to them.
In the near future students will link to a work site that will possibly serve as an apprenticeship. I am excited and elated that Special Education students are no longer viewed as outcasts because of their handicapping conditions. They can become productive members of society and learn to compensate for their handicap.
The special student this year feels more in tune with the regular student because he or she is changing classes like the other students. They are involved in more extracurricular activities because they feel a bigger part of the school.
My goal for this year is to learn this darn computer and be computer literate!!!!! Well, everyone wish me Luck, because I really need it.
