Restored by a master:Shortly after its acquisition by the Conservatory, this original 1853 Erard grand piano was restored by David Winston of London, who also restored one of Beethoven's pianos. The instrument was in great need of repair because it had been in storage for some time, having been impounded by the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife because it has ivory keys, said David Breitman, assistant professor of historical performance. The Conservatory also owns three facsimile fortepianos.
