The Jesse Philips Physical Education Center, a 115,000-square-foot facility, is the hallmark of Oberlin's athletic complex; its gymnasium, the equivalent of three full-sized basketball courts, is divisible and is used for basketball and volleyball. Other facilities in
Philips include Carr Pool, the site of two NCAA swimming and diving championships and 11 consecutive NCAC championship meets; a Nautilus center; a hammer strength room, a free weight room, six racquetball and nine squash courts. In addition, there are specific rooms devoted to nearly every conceivable athletic endeavor. Oberlin's newest athletic facility, the $3.5 million John W. Heisman Club Field House, opened in the fall of 1992. The structure is linked to Philips and includes a six-lane, 200 meter track and four tennis courts.
Outdoor facilities include the 3,500-seat Dill Field football and track stadium, which is adjoined by Jones Field House; an eight-lane all weather running track; 23 playing and practice fields; a roofed ice-skating rink; a five mile cross-country course; 12 all weather tennis courts; and a 1.25 mile fitness trail.
