The Leah Deborah Freed Memorial Award
Oberlin College Women's Studies Program

The Leah Deborah Freed Memorial Award honors the memory of Leah Deborah Freed (1954-1986), a pioneer student in Women's Studies at Oberlin from 1972-77. It is awarded annually to one or more students on the basis of exemplary written work submitted to the Women's Studies Committee. Preference will be given to papers or essays using primary documents on Oberlin women in the Oberlin College archives, although other essays and papers are welcome.

Application Procedure

Submit two copies of the paper and brief answers to these questions:

When and where was the research for this paper conducted?
If this paper was used for another purpose, what was that purpose?

The maximum length is 35 pages. A selection of chapters or sections from longer papers is acceptable. Entries should be written in English, unless other arrangements have been made with the Women's Studies coordinator by March 1, 1996.

Complete applications and materials for the award must be submitted by Tuesday April 2, 1996 to the Women's Studies Office, Rice 34.

Recipients of the award will be notified by late April, 1996.

Award recipients will receive a cash prize. They will also be included among the honorees at the College Honors Day assembly and in the list of Prizes and Honors at Commencement. Award recipients will be invited to present the project to the Oberlin community at an event sponsored by the Women's Studies Program in late April or early May.
