Women's History Sources in the Oberlin College Archives

The Oberlin College Archives provide a wealth of information related to the history of women at Oberlin College.

A Guide to the Women's History Sources in the Oberlin College Archives, with a foreward by historian Carol Lasser, was compiled in 1990. It is available for $20 from the Oberlin College Archives. This reference tool describes the rich historical resources available for studying the role and impact of women on the history of Oberlin College. Included are descriptions of discrete collections (institutional and non-institutional) tracing Oberlin's history from its founding in 1833, when it embraced coeducation, to the late twentieth century and the establishment of women's studies as a separate discipline.

The Guide, with 136 pages and 147 entries, is organized in sequential order around the record groups held by the Oberlin College Archives. Each numbered entry contains a collection title, with inclusive dates and collection size. Following the title is an Administrative History or Biographical Sketch, depending upon whether the entry reports on an institutional or personal papers collection. The title is followed by a Scope and Content Note, summarizing the extent and depth of the group or collection. This illustrated guide also contains an introduction by editor and College Archivist Roland M. Baumann and a fifteen-page index.
