We Offer a Full-Year Internship in the Oberlin Public Schools
For an entire academic year, you will work with mentor teachers in Oberlin Public School classrooms and become an integral part of students’ lives. You will spend three to four days a week in the schools, at one grade level in the fall semester, and at another grade level in the spring semester, while continuing to take graduate classes. This immersion experience gives you the opportunity to take what you learn from your coursework and test those ideas in the classroom on a real-time basis.
Your mentor teachers will provide models of how theory and pedagogical skills translate into sound classroom practice, and they will guide you as you study, observe, and gradually take on responsibility for classroom teaching. Very few programs can provide this type of immersion training, which prepares teacher candidates to meet the wide variety of challenges that may arise during their first years of teaching.
Throughout the year you will have the support and guidance of your mentor teachers, the program faculty, and your GTEP cohort peers, all working together to prepare you to enter the often hectic, always rewarding world of teaching.
