“Oberlin’s rigorous academic standards set this program apart from similar programs at peer institutions. The curriculum reflects the College’s mission and reinforces the idea of social justice through education.”

Jody Kerchner,
Associate Professor of Music Education, Graduate Teacher Education Program
Since the college was founded in 1833, Oberlin’s name has been
synonymous with teaching excellence in the liberal arts and music.
Its facilities support pioneering research and education. Oberlin
alumni go on to success in many fields and earn more PhD's than
do graduates of any other baccalaureate college.

Oberlin was the first college to grant undergraduate degrees to women
and historically was a leader in the educating of African Americans; its
heritage is one of respect for the individual and active concern for the
larger society.

The city of Oberlin’s first schoolteacher was a student of the College,
and Oberlin’s renowned Conservatory of Music offered the first
four-year degree in music education in the United States.

If your goal is teaching music, consider earning your Master's degree in Music
Teaching (M.M.T.) at Oberlin's renowned Conservatory of Music, where you will study with
master teachers whose focus is on excellence in musicianship, pedagogy, and scholarship.
