We Offer a Master's Degree in a 12-Month Course of Study
Join members of Oberlin’s renowned College faculty and Oberlin K-12 public school teachers for an intensive and creative year of graduate study and school-based internship. Successful completion of our program earns you a masters degree and provisional teaching licensure.
The program begins in mid-June each year, opening with a summer schedule of core courses in the foundation and philosophy of education. Beginning in the fall and throughout the school year, candidates will be immersed in the day-to-day life of the Oberlin public schools, drawing upon the best practices in education today. Mentor teachers will help candidates translate theory into practice and apply pedagogy to ensure their long-term success as educators.
The program is open to applicants with liberal-arts-based undergraduate degrees with a major in arts and humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, or mathematics. A cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 is required.
Successful completion of the twelve-month, 43 semester-hour program leads to a Master in Education degree and eligibility for initial teaching licensure in Early Childhood (PreK-grade 3) or Middle Childhood (grades 4-9), which is granted by the State of Ohio upon passage of the Praxis II examinations.
Ohio has licensing reciprocity with 43 other states. The Graduate Teacher Education Program at Oberlin College meets all required national, state and professional standards for excellence in teaching.
