GRADUATE PROGRAM IN TEACHER EDUCATION

Tuition & Financial Aid

Tuition
The cost of the program for 2009-2010 has been set at $28,875. This amount includes tuition, textbooks, access to all Oberlin College libraries, the OCID admission price for all ticketed events, and access to Philips Recreation Center.

An enrollment deposit of $300 will be collected with your acceptance of admission. Contact the Graduate Teacher Education Program Office for more information.

Other costs
Candidates will be responsible for a handful of costs throughout the year, including test registration fees, a background check, a portable hard drive, and other program-related costs. Our current estimate for these various costs is $650. Optional costs include an Oberlin College parking pass ($75/year).

Insurance
All graduate students are required to have health insurance. GTEP candidates are encouraged to take advantage of Oberlin College's student insurance program, if they are not already covered under another insurance policy. The student health insurance fee for last year was $770 for the year, and is anticipated to go up only slightly for 2009-2010. International students must be on the Oberlin College student insurance program.

Housing
Housing arrangements are the responsibility of each program candidate. Costs are quite reasonable owing to Oberlin's small town location and the current rental market. The best starting point for leads on housing is the Classifieds section of Oberlin OnLine. The GTEP office can provide some support in connecting with local landlords, including the College rental office.

Financial Aid

The primary source of financial assistance for GTEP is provided by federally supported education loans (Stafford Loans), which are available to U.S. citizens and permanent residents who demonstrate financial need and meet all program eligibility requirements. Typically, candidates will find that they are eligible for a loan amount large enough to cover both tuition and living expenses for the year, plus incidentals (however, candidates are not required to take out the full amount of their loan eligibility, and may choose to take a lesser amount).

In addition to federal loans, there is a limited amount of scholarship aid available for highly qualified applicants, based on need. To be considered for an award directly from GTEP, you should complete all steps of the GTEP admissions application as early as possible, as well as completing the required financial aid forms indicated below.

(NOTE: Oberlin College students may already have some of the forms listed below on file. The Office of Financial Aid can advise each Oberlin College student or recent alumni applicant as to which forms they will need to complete.)
