GRADUATE PROGRAM IN TEACHER EDUCATION

Visiting the Oberlin Campus

If you live within driving distance of Oberlin, we encourage you to visit campus if possible, in order to learn more about GTEP in person, meet informally with one or more faculty members, and tour the college campus and the city schools. Please contact us if you would like to arrange a visit to Oberlin.

Making the Most of Your Visit

Your visit to Oberlin can include much more than a tour and a chance to meet the GTEP staff. If the schedule allows, you might sit in on a student teacher's classroom and/or a GTEP graduate course. If you would like a transcript review, you will want to arrange that with our Admissions Officer, and be sure to send your unofficial transcript ahead of time. At the end of the day, you might choose to explore campus on your own, visiting the Allen Memorial Art Museum, the Philips Recreation Center, or the Conservatory of Music. You could even take in a play, film, concert, recital or sporting event – Oberlin may be a small town, but it offers big city culture and amenities! Consult the Oberlin College Arts Guide for information about our premier events, while for a more comprehensive list of what's going on around campus, go to www.oberlin.edu/events.

Campus Tour

You may choose to explore campus on your own, arrange a GTEP-specific tour with our Admissions Officer, or take a student-led tour provided by the undergraduate Admissions Office. The student-led tours, which last approximately an hour, are both thorough and interesting, offering a plethora of details on college and town history, as well as academic and student life information (aimed primarily at an audience of prospective undergraduates and parents). Reservations are not required. The tours leave from the undergraduate admissions office in the Carnegie Building, and are available from September through May at the following times:

Mon-Fri: 10:00 am, 12:00 pm, 2:30 pm, 4:30 pm
Sat: 10:00 am, 12:00 pm

A printed version of a self-guided campus tour is also available in the kiosk just outside the North Professor Street entrance of the Office of Admissions, if you would rather explore on your own, or should happen to visit campus at a time when the Office of Admissions is closed.

Visiting the Oberlin Public Schools

The GTEP Admissions Officer can take you on a tour of the city schools, if arranged in advance. Sitting in to observe a student teacher's classroom may be possible depending on the day of your visit.
