GRADUATE PROGRAM IN TEACHER EDUCATION

Admissions Review Process

Qualification for admission is assessed through evaluation of both objective data such as scores and transcript analysis, and subjective data, such as your written essay, letters of recommendation, your resume of experience, and, if invited to campus, your interviews, to assess the general breadth and depth of each applicant's preparation for this intensive immersion program.

Review of Objective Data

Reviewers will evaluate:
  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree transcript(s)
  • GRE General Test Score

Review of Subjective Data

Because this is a highly selective program, we are looking for candidates who are the best “fit” for the program. Much of the decision will be based on subjective data, such as evidence that the candidate will succeed working and learning in a cohort group in an intense academic and work setting.

Other strengths the Admissions Committee looks for are:
  • Intellectual rigor in the pursuit of knowledge
  • Thorough grounding within the disciplines or areas in which you want to teach
  • A spirit of inquiry, critical analysis, ongoing discourse, and personal reflection
  • Openness and the willingness to take risks
  • Respect for diverse ideas, perspectives, cultures, and ways of knowing
  • Commitment to being part of a professional community of educators

The interpersonal skills and qualities listed below, as well as your personal goals, beliefs about how people learn, and an explanation of why you are choosing education as a profession, will be evaluated mainly through analysis of your written essay. These qualities and skills will also be evaluated through interviews if you are invited to campus as part of your application process.
