Tennis 1-2 at Midwest Regional

Oberlin womens tennis team encountered one of the few serious
challenges it has seen this season as they went 1-2 at the Midwest
Regional tournament in Madison, Wis. last Friday and Saturday.
women earned their invitation to the tournament with their 3-1 showing
at the Great Lakes Colleges Association tournament the week before,
and entered the Midwest Regional with a 14-4 record. Meanwhile,
the mens team was blanked 7-0 by conference rival Wittenberg
teams from seven states attended the Midwest Regional, which helps
determine what teams will be selected for the NCAA tournament. Oberlin
faced off against three teams, losing to Wisconsin Eau Claire, 8-1,
and Wisconsin Whitewater, 5-4, on Friday, but rebounding on Saturday
to defeat Carthage, 6-2.

deficit than three, as the number one doubles team of junior Alaina
Fotiu-Wojtowicz and first-year Ary Amerikaner provided Oberlins
two were victorious in all of their matches against Whitewater
Fotiu-Wojtowicz taking first singles, Amerikaner second singles,
and the pair taking first doubles but it wasnt enough
to prevent a tight loss.
team was back to form against Carthage, winning all five singles
matches (number three singles did not finish), while the second
doubles team of junior Laura Koehn and first-year Jessica Hauser
accounted for the sixth victory by winning 8-3.
the men and the women next play at Allegheny on Saturday. The men
last played Thursday afternoon against Kenyon. The results were
not available in time for publication.
