Men’s Hoops Ends Winning Streak
by Jacob Kramer-Duffield

Oberlin men’s basketball fell to Kenyon College with a final score of 83-67 at home this past Wednesday, Feb. 6. The loss dropped the men to 7-14 overall and 6-7 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, which puts them alone in fifth place in the conference. Prior to the loss the men had won five in a row, including a 69-59 home overtime victory over Earlham College last Saturday, Feb. 2.
In the Kenyon match, Oberlin stuck with the Lords for most of the first half, leading 32-30 with just under three minutes left, but faltered as Kenyon pulled away to take a six-point lead, ending the half at 38-32. The Yeomen were able to trim this lead to four points midway through the second half of the game, but never got closer than that and ended up falling behind by another 12.
The Earlham match featured Oberlin down by a lot early in the game, as they trailed 27-18 at the end of the first half. The Quakers extended the edge in the second half, leading by 43-27 before the Yeomen woke up with a 25-9 run to tie the game at 52 with a little more than a minute remaining. After regulation closed with the score even at 54, Oberlin came out dominant in the extra time, rolling to 15 points compared to Earlham’s five, and coasted to victory.
The men’s next game is an away match at Ohio Wesleyan tomorrow at 3 p.m., and they then come home next Wednesday for their regular season finale, an 8 p.m. contest against Allegheny (Pa.) College. The two upcoming matches are critical for the Yeomen, who are having their best season in years and are angling for a post-season position. OWU is one spot ahead of the Yeomen in the NCAC with a conference record of 7-6, and Allegheny is a spot behind with a 5-8 mark.
