Info on Sept. 11 Available in Mudd

To the Editors:

In response to the events of Sept. 11, 2001, the Reference & Instruction Department at Mudd has created a guide to finding information related to the events of Sept. 11. The guide is intended to assist Oberlin College community members in seeking information to help us understand the political, religious, economic and cultural contexts relating to the events. It is not intended as a guide to current events as they unfold.
Instead, the emphasis is on understanding the background, context, and issues relating to the events. We developed the guide in time to distribute paper copies at the last of the campus discussion series last Friday 9/21. The web version of the guide will be updated and is currently a featured link from the library’s homepage (www.oberlin.edu /library). The URL for the guide itself is http://www.oberlin.edu /library/res_sub/int-09-11-01.html.
We want the guide to be a useful aid in the campus dialogue, and, to that end, we are soliciting input from the campus community on additional sources that might enhance the usefulness of the guide. Such suggestions will be added in a special section of the guide. I am coordinating the web version of the guide and suggestions may be sent to me at heather.smith@oberlin.edu.
I would also be glad to answer questions about the guide or to forward paper copies to any campus office or organization upon request. I encourage you to share the word about this resource with your friends, classmates, professors, students, etc. and anyone interested in enriching
their understanding of the issues surrounding recent events. If you have
suggestions for making this resource more useful to the campus dialogues on these issues, please let me know. Thank you very much.
