End of All-Male Dorm Sparks Vandalism

In what seemed like a last attempt to demonstrate against Residential Life and Service’s decision last Thursday to turn Zechiel Hall, an all-male, predominantly athletic residence hall on north campus into a co-ed residence hall by next year, vandals caused destruction throughout the building. The vandalism occurred throughout the weekend.

Report Highlights Financial Aid Discrepancies

Those who think that working hard in school and earning good grades are enough to get a student to college are apparently mistaken. According to a report by the Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance to the United States Department of Education, many low-income students’ needs for financial aid are going unfulfilled in two-year and four-year state colleges as well as four-year private colleges.

Indie Stud Gives Crash Course In Modern Dance

Sponsored by the Oberlin Dance Umbrella, this weekend’s Indie Stud Dance Concert is a conglomeration of work by student choreographers and dancers. The Dance Umbrella was formed last year to give support to student dance and performance work not sponsored by the college, hence the concert’s independent edge. The concert could be likened to a survey course in modern dance in the sense that it peruses a variety of thematic schemes. The show gives a taste of what it is exactly that Oberlin dancers are up to these days, but because of the show’s short running time and limited space, it necessarily packs a lot of punch into a brief presentation.

Home Meet Gives Opportunity For Improvement

For a team holding little statistical reason to give a damn, Oberlin’s track and field athletes gave a lot.
While Oberlin rested many of its top performers in anticipation of this weekend’s Indoor NCAC Championship meet, Oberlin whipped up home cooking last Friday at this last-chance warm-up meet at Heisman Field House, stealing surprising first-place finishes in women’s and men’s jumping events and winning the men’s and women’s 4x200m relays and the women’s 4x400m relay.
