The following is a compilation of weekly reports from the Office of Safety and Security.
Sept. 1, 2:23 a.m. An officer responded to a report of a resident of Zechiel who had been stopped by county law enforcement officers after flagging down vehicles in the area of St. Rt. 58 and Butternut Ridge Road. The student, who was reported to be intoxicated, became lost walking to Zechiel. The student was returned to his residence hall.
Sept. 20, 9:05 a.m. An officer responded to a report from a staff member of a powdery substance on the center section of the President's bulletin board covering a flier regarding the Mumia trial. The powdery substance was found to be from a discharged fire extinguisher.
Oct. 15, 7:37 p.m. An officer responded to report from a staff member at Stevenson of a student who had thrown an empty beer can into the dish room at Biggs Dining Hall. The student was described as a white male, black hair, wearing a t-shirt and blue jeans. A check of the area was made, but no one could be located.
Nov. 6, 2:11 a.m. An officer responded to request from student for assistance in checking on the well being of her friend in Dascomb. The student was found to be OK, sleeping in his room.
Nov. 8, 1:02 p.m. An officer responded to report from student of the theft of three lemons from his backpack in Mudd. The bookbag was left on unattended on a table for about 10 minutes.
Nov. 9, 11:15 p.m. An officer received request from student for transport to Allen Memorial Hospital. The student was struck in the head during a Tae Kwon Do free-sparring class.
Nov. 13, 11:34 p.m. An officer responded to a report from an employee at the Oberlin Inn of what appeared to be a counterfeit $10 bill. The bill was given to the Oberlin Police Department. It was learned the bill was legal U.S. currency.
Feb. 4, 5:16 p.m. An officer responded to report from a staff member of an unknown person hitting the cement post outside the east end of Burton Hall. The Grounds Department was notified of the damage.
Feb. 5, 8:10 p.m. An officer responded to a student staff member at Langston Hall who turned in a commando type found on a ledge just outside of Langston Hall near the south entrance. Oberlin Police Department was notified.
Feb. 6, 1:02 a.m. An officer reported a strong odor of marijuana on the first floor of South Hall. Students said the odor was the result of a burned out light bulb.Feb. 7, 4:40 p.m. An officer responded to report from a staff member at Mudd of skateboarders "tricking" with their boards in the loading dock area. A skateboard was confiscated from one juvenile who had been warned on numerous occasions, and released to his parent.
Feb. 11, 5:22 a.m. An officer received a report of a custodial staff member almost struck near Cox Administration by a small red vehicle driven by a person delivering newspapers. The person driving the vehicle was not identified.
Feb. 11, 2:48 p.m. An officer received a report of a student transported by ambulance to Allen Memorial Hospital after she became ill in Wilder DeCafe.
Feb. 15, 10:10 p.m. An officer received a report from a student shuttle driver involved in an accident in Wilder lot. While backing up, the driver misjudged and struck a pole. There were no injuries.
Feb. 27, 12:41 a.m. An officer responded to a report of an odor of a controlled substance in South Hall. The parties responsible were located and the complaint was referred to Residential Life and the Judicial Coordinator.
Feb. 29, 4:30 p.m. An officer responded to report from a staff person at Wilder Hall of two juveniles roller-blading on the A-level ramp. The juveniles were located, advised of college policy and asked to leave.
Mar. 3, 6:15 p.m. An officer responded to a report from a staff person of two candles burning in a room on the first floor at Burton. The candles were extinguished and brought to the Safety and Security Office.
Mar. 6, 6:40 p.m. An officer and the Oberlin Fire Department responded to an alarm at Asia House. The alarm was activated by smoke from birthday cake candles.
Mar. 10, 8:23 p.m. An officer responded to a report from a student of a harassing message on her dorm room billboard and medication missing from her room.
Mar. 14, 4:06 a.m. An officer received a report from the Oberlin Police Department of two Oberlin College students cited for disorderly conduct and public intoxication on North Professor Street.
Apr. 4, 12:50 a.m. An officer and the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at the Oberlin Inn. The alarm was caused by a malfunctioning smoke detector
Apr. 4, 10:01 p.m. An officer responded to a report from a staff member of two students discharging fireworks from the third floor balcony of Tank. The fireworks were confiscated and it was explained that fireworks are illegal in the state of Ohio.
Apr. 11, 11:36 a.m. An officer received a report from a student of a cup of water thrown on her by a construction worker while she was riding her bicycle near a city construction area on South Professor Street. The Oberlin Police Department was notified of the incident.
Apr. 20, 2:58 p.m. An officer responded to a report from a vendor delivering an order at Wilder Hall. The vendor reported a student removed a case of beer from his truck. The student, who was identified, was contacted and referred to Judicial Board.
May 1, 6:34 p.m. An officer responded to a report from a staff person of damage to the door that separates the Dascomb dining area from the main lounge by an unknown female. After being denied entry, she kicked the bottom portion of the wire-reinforced glass, creating a hole.
May 9, 2:17 a.m. An officer responded to a report from a student of an open can of sardines in front of his room door in Langston. The sardines were removed and discarded.
