Catholic Scholar to Discuss Berrigan Politics

Influential Catholic scholar Peter Gathje will deliver a lecture Tuesday, April 25th, covering the politics of Daniel and Philip Berrigan, father of first-year Kate Berrigan.

Gathje's lecture, entitled "Rituals of Resistance: The Prophetic Politics of Daniel and Philip Berrigan," will discuss the radical activism of the Berrigan family from a Catholic perspective.

The Berrigan's have gained national notoriety through their affiliation with the Plowshares, a group devoted to the abolition of weapons and what they view to be senseless violence.

Philip Berrigan was recently sentenced to prison due to his participation in a Plowshares attack against East Baltimore's airport. The Plowshares were protesting American imposition into other nation's wars.

Gathje's lecture will be at 4:30 in King 106.
