Security Notebook


The following is a compilation of weekly reports from the Office of Safety and Security.

November 12, 7:55 p.m. Officer responded to the report of a student in Dascomb needing assistance after cutting her finger using a pen knife while opening a plastic bottle. The student was transported to Allen Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released.

November 13, 11:44 a.m. Officer and Oberlin Fire Department responded to the report of a fire alarm in the basement area of Allen Memorial Art Museum. A smoke detector had been activated by dust from a ventilation fan.

8 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a disgruntled visitor at the Conservatory Library. The subject spoke in an argumentative manner to a student library staff member before leaving the library.

8 p.m. Officer responded to the report of students drinking at the ice rink in violation of Lorain County Hockey League rules. An announcement was made about the prohibition of alcohol on the premises and offending students compiled.

November 15, 2:20 p.m. Officer responded to the request of a parent to check on the well-being of her daughter at Burton Hall. Residential Life staff made a follow-up contact to request that the student call home.

8:29 p.m. Officer and Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm on the second floor lounge of Barrows. The smoke detector had been activated by candles on a birthday cake.

November 16, 1:50 p.m. Officer responded to the report of the theft of computer components from a Dell EIS9H computer in King computer lab 137. Missing is a mother board, riser card, and hard drive valued at $800-900.

2:39 p.m. Officer responded to the report of a 12" x 18" bulletin board valued at $15.00 missing from the hall outside the entrance to Bibbins 123, Conservatory. The board was taken between Friday, November 13 and Monday, November 16.

2:50 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a loss or theft of a student's wallet containing foreign identification, driver's license and credit cards. The loss occurred out of town while traveling through Chicago O'Hare airport on Friday, November 13. Report was made with the Safety and Security Office as no report was written by airport authorities.

3:35 p.m. Officer responded to the report of a briefcase taken from room 147 Robertson, Conservatory between 3 p.m. November 2 and 9 a.m. November 4. The briefcase, locked in the room, contained 6 pairs of Cleveland timpani mallets, 1 pair of Malletech Vibraphone mallets, 2 instruction books, a notebook, and a tuning fork. Total value of the loss was $350.

November 17, 8:14 a.m. Officer responded to the report of damage to the press box window at the stadium. The Plexiglass window had been pushed in. There was no loss of equipment from the press box.

10:37 a.m. Officer and Oberlin Fire Department responded to a fire alarm on the second floor of Bailey. A smoke detector had been activated in a common area of a quad by burning toast.
