Security Notebook


The following is a compilation of weekly reports from the Office of Safety and Security.

September 17, 9:58 a.m. Officer responded to a report of a student injured in Warner Hall at the Conservatory. The student, working during a reception, slipped on a wet spot on the floor, injuring her knee. The student was treated and released at Allen Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.

9:58 a.m. Officer responded to a report of a suspicious incident on South Professor near Elm Street. A student, walking south on Professor Street, reported the driver of a black van with an A-1 exhaust pulled to the side of the street, greeted him with an angry voice, then sped away.

10:59 a.m. Officer responded to a report of a bicycle stolen in front of Harkness between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Missing was a Trek 830 Mountain Bike with white "Rock Shocks" and a Mansfield Ohio Bike Shop sticker, the bike lock and key.

September 18, 3:34 p.m. Officer and fire department responded to a report of a fire alarm at Heisman Field House. A pull station had been activated by a small child, causing the alarm system to activate.

September 19, 4:00 p.m. Officer and Oberlin Fire department responded to a report of a fire alarm at Baldwin. A room smoke detector was activated without apparent cause.

September 20, 1:23 a.m. Officer and the Oberlin Fire Department responded to a report of a fire alarm at the Oberlin Inn. No apparent cause for the alarm was found; system reset was completed.

4:15 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a student injured playing rugby the day before. Student complained of head and neck pain and was treated and released from the Allen Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.

4:20 p.m. Officer responded to a report of bikes damaged in front of Philips Gym. Two bikes locked together at the ramp at approximately 2:45 p.m., a Fuji Crosstown and a Huffy Northwest Green, had been pushed over and damage was inflicted to the handlebars and front tires.

September 21, 10:51 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a suspicious inquiry via a computer message transaction. Inquiry was for information about another student from a person from Berkeley, California.

September 22, 11:31 a.m. Officer responded to a report of a student from Asia House who had injured a toe. Student was transported to Student Health, where she was treated and released.

12:35 p.m. Officer responded to a report of currency missing from a student's room in Barrows. Student, who had previous other unreported items missing or lost, last saw the currency five days prior to the reported theft in a blue plastic bag in his dresser drawer. A report was made with the Police Department.

2:52 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a student who had injured her ankle at Warner Center. Student was provided first aid treatment and assisted to Burton Hall.

11:40 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a theft of cash from a wallet from atop a student's dresser while the room was unlocked between 9:00 and 9:30 p.m.

September 23, 9:20 p.m. Officer responded to a report of a suspicious subject in the North Quad. Subject was described as a white male, approximately 5'9" tall, wearing blue jeans, gray jacket, tennis shoes and a baseball cap. Subject was stopped, identified and complied when asked to leave the premises.
