Accreditation committee to review Oberlin

The College is now preparing for its periodic accreditation review. A team of evaluators will visit campus next week, as it does once every 10 years.

College President Nancy Dye said, "They'll poke around, see a lot of people and write up a report."

The evaluation is organized by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of College and Schools and the National Association of Schools of Music.

As in most final exams, the questions are unannounced. Although the evaluators will meet with students and faculty, the accreditation team has assumed responsibility for directing their visit.

"You don't direct their experience," Dye said.

"It gives us a new set of eyes," Assistant to the President Diana Roose said, "but it's three days of intense work."

Members of the College community are invited to participate in open meetings with the evaluators.

Dye said the team's findings would most likely be made public.
