Social position in Asian-American studies given highest rank
The Educational Plans and Policies Committee finished ranking departmental requests this week. Requests made by the Mathematics Department, Sociology Department and Environmental Studies Program were given the highest ranking of highest priority permanent, and are considered very important curriculur priorities.
New amendments to SLC charter anger Senators
The Student Life Committee (SLC) met for the last time this semester, and discussed the revised SLC charter, which may be in effect at the beginning of next semester. They also discussed the voting privledges of the Dean of Student Life and the associate deans, none of which currently have voting privledges.
Administrators, students alike say day is dangerous
Last Saturday was designated Trip Saturday, a day for communal experimentation with psychedelic drugs. Several students tripped despite a letter of warning sent out by several administrative groups.
Senate election ballots misinforming
Senate elections are underway this week, with 16 candidates running for 10 positions. There was some confusion regarding a discrepancy between the electronic ballot and the paper ballot; each said to vote for a different number of senators. Confusion was based on misinterpretation of the new constitution bylaws.
Drive to coincide with music, dancing in Tappan
The Seventh Pastors for Peace Caravan will be convening in Tappan Square Saturday to collect material aid for Cubans and to protest the US blockade of humanitarian aid to Cuba. The day will also celebrate dance and music from Oberlin.
Movie tells of Oberlin ghosts
Ghosts in Oberlin is the topic of senior Matt Stinchcomb's final film project, entitled Ghost Town, USA: The True Story of Oberlin's Haunted Buildings. While the subject seems silly, some people have taken the rumors of ghosts very seriously.
Program houses offer a sense of community pride
Program houses are one of the features of Oberlin that make campus living more familial. Different houses create communities students are invited to join and contribute to, making them feel like a second home. Some students who do not belong to program houses, however, feel they are exclusive to other communities.
