Few students take opportunity to discuss ideas
The Board of Trustees is expected to approve the projected $109 million preliminary 1997-8 budget at their meeting this weekend. Faculty salary increases, financial aid were two areas for strategic spending increases this year.
Measures taken to stop theft, raise awareness
The Co-op bookstore has begun a crackdown on theft due to the massive losses they have sustained over the past four years. The bookstore lost $77,000 due to theft and miscellaneous bookkeeping errors last year. The bag-check and restrictions on what can be carried to different floors of the building are two of the methods the store is using to reduce theft.
Removal of signs on mailboxes a confusion
The policy to remove messages posted on mailroom boxes was reversed officially this week. There was confusion surrounding the origin of the rule, but the new policy was traced back to fire regulations.

POCKET will bring computers, extpertise to schools
Two Oberlin students are organizing a program to help Oberlin public school computer facilities. The students will use old College computers to stock the public school's computer center. The project is called Project for the Oberlin Community, Kicking off Education by Technology (POCKET).
New Co-op Coordinator uses like idea of co-ops and energy of students
Tracy Murray, the new Co-op Area Coordinator, doubles as a writer. In addition to acting as a liason between co-ops and the College, Murray also writes novels and screenlays, such as Sex, Lies and Videotape. He uses his observations of college campuses as material for his writing
Series organized by students after a semester at Galludet
Deaf Studies and deaf culture were the topic of two lectures last weekend coupled with a panel discussion this Saturday which attempted to bring deaf issues into the Oberlin community. The events were organized primarily by Senior Heather West who went on an exchange ot Galludet University.
Group plans to have proposal ready before Spring Break
Environmental Studies Center plans drawn
The Environmental Studies Center plans are at their final design stage. The plans will be presented to the Board of Trustees this weekend for approval. If approved, the College will begin construction of the building this summer.
