If this is your last weekend in the Ohio area before you head out for Spring Break, be sure to use Cleveland to its full advantage. This week's Arts...Out of Town events include everything from racist movie titles to traditional Schubertiade. Be artsy and get involved.

The Canton Symphony Orchestra, featuring trumpet legend Doc Severinsen, will perform the Paulus Trumpet Concert's and Fazzi's Napoli Variations Mar. 9 at 7:30p.m. The two aforementioned pieces will feature Severinsen and the main group will also perform Tschaikovsky's Francesca da Rimini and Kevin Hanlon's Clarion. The film I am Curious (Sweden/Britain, 1995, subtitles) directed by Stig Bjorkman, as well as 100 Years of Polish Cinema (Poland/Britain, 1995, subtitles) directed by Pawel Lozinski will both show Mar. 9 at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Hey Schubert fans! A real, live Schubertiade is happening tonight at 8 p.m. at CSU's Waetjen Auditorium. Just like the old days, an informal soirée complete with Viennese-style coffee and pastries are part of the program to celebrate the bicentennial of Schubert's birth. Performances include Song in the Forest, Song of the Spirits over the Water and others, composed by Schubert, of course. Admission is $6. For more information, call (216) 556-4405.

The classic comedy Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead comes to the Shadowbox Theatre on the Andrews Campus beginning tonight and continuing through Mar. 23. Showtimes are 8 p.m. and 3 p.m. matinees. Tickets are $9. For more information, call (216) 951-6637.

The Politics of Identitiy Politics, a panel discussion on the impact of art work with themes of gender, race, ethnicity and sexual preference will take place Mar. 9 at 2 p.m. Panelists include a variety of experts from in and out of state. The discussion will take place at the Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art; admission is free. For more information, call (216) 421-8671.

A concert for guitar and lute will be performed by Hopkinson Smith Mar. 9 at the Cleveland Museum of Art at 3:30p.m. Music from Germany and Spain, of J.S. Bach, Weiss, Guerau and Sanz will be performed. Admission is free. For more information, call (216) 421-7340.

Also at the Cleveland Museum of Art, harpsichordist Michael Shönberg will perform a recital in gallery 200. Performance is at 3 p.m.; admission is free. For more information, call (216) 421-7340.

Don't Touch the White Woman! It's a movie. It's showing at the Cleveland Cinematheque tonight at 7:30p.m. Also showing tonight, Tales of Ordinary Madness at 9:40p.m. Admission to these fine Ferreri flicks is $3 each. For more information, call (216) 421-7450.

Also showing this weekend at the Cleveland Cinematheque: The Confessional, 7 p.m. and Buzzard Day, 9 p.m.; both Mar. 8. And, on Mar. 9, check out Ferreri's La Grande Bouffe and Ruiz's City of Pirates. Admission is $3 and $4, respectively. For more infromation, call (216) 421-7450.

For those of you staying in the viscinity of Oberlin over spring break,there are additional Arts...Out of Town events that should be written on your calenar, or, if you prefer, on the back of your hand. Check `em out. The opening night of the Cleveland International Film Festival is Mar. 13. A reception, premiere and opening night gala all begin in the evening. Further events at the Cleveland Museum of Art include a Jazz on the Circle Concert performed by the Abbey Lincoln Quartet. The concert takes place Mar. 14 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $18 and up. For more information, call (216) 421-7340.

Mar. 15 is your last chance to catch The Fable of the Cloister of the Cemetaries, an original work by Congo/French playwright Caya Makhele. For tickets and more information, call (216) 631-2727. Also at the Cleveland Museum of Art next weekend, organist Karel Paukert will perform works by Bruns, Wiedermann and Lefebure-Wely. Recital is on Mar. 16 at 2 p.m. Admission is free. For long-term planning on Mar. 21, recording artist Boozoo Chavis will perform at Wilbert's in Cleveland at 10 p.m. For more information, call (216) 771-2583.

Gilbert and Sullivan's classic opera, The Mikado, comes to the State Theatre Mar. 21. Performed in English by the Cleveland Opera, the work will be conducted by Robert Linder. Tickets are from $17.50 to $55. For showtimes and more information, call (800) 766-6048.

The Great Lakes Theatre Festival presents the provocative play What the Butler Saw, beginning Mar. 22. Public previews, in addition, are set for Mar. 20 and 21 at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $14-$35. For more information, call (800) 888-9941.
