Activists protest Neuroscience lab
Oberlin Animal Rights organized a protest of the introductory neuroscience lab this week. More than 12 students gathered outside the laboratory to demonstrate against vivisection.
Senate-organized meeting draws 40 students
President Nancy Dye answered student questions and reacted to their concerns Wednesday night about her reaction to the October Tribe-8 concert at the `Sco. The definition of art and lines between performance and non-performance space were discussed, along with other issues.
Display to be largest ever in stage of Ohio
The NAMES Project AIDS Quilt is coming to Oberlin this weekend. The largest portion of the quilt to ever be on display in Ohio will be in the Heisman Field House Saturday through Monday. Organizers have planned extensive educational outreach to go along with the quilt, including visits to the display by local school groups.
College Faculty react to community building
College faculty discussed the difficulties of creating a sense of community amidst the pressures of college life at their College Faculty Meeting on Tuesday. The discussion emerged from a presentation by President Nancy Dye about the report of Long Range Planning focus groups.
Improving communication on campus focus meeting
At Senate's meeting on Nov. 24, the body began an on-going discussion of diversity within Senate. Some senators felt the lack of minority interest in Senate came from the percieved lack of Senate's power. Senator's continued the discussion on Tuesday in an optional meeting.
OhioPIRG brings Brown to campus
OhioPIRG sponsored a lecture by Congressman Sherrod Brown. He spoke about financial aid and the Republicans to a group of students.
Students share stories of co-ops and race
In an effort to initiate dialogue about the lack of diversity in the Oberlin Student Cooperative Association (OSCA), members of OSCA held a storytelling session Sunday, Nov. 24. The 15 participants shared feeling about race, diversity and community at the event.
After historic election, SLC needs mission
Dean of Student Life and Services Charlene Cole-Newkirk recently met with the General Faculty Committee to discuss clarifying the committee's role. The SLC recently made history by electing a student co-chair.
Board of Trustees to meet this weekend
The Board of Trustees' December meeting is this weekend. Approval of initial goals for the 1997-8 budget and presentations about the new science center and the Environmental Studies Center by architects are on the agenda. Trustees will also hear a review of the long-range planning process.
Students share concerns with class trustees
Class trustees held an open forum on Thursday night for students. Four students and two interns from the Multicultural Resource Center attended the event. Concerns voiced ranged from advising to international studies.
