Fox takes 41st in national X-C meet

Senior Shannon Fox finished 41st at the national cross country meet Saturday in Rock Island, Ill.

Fox's finish was her best among her three national races. She finished ahead of all NCAC runners including Kenyon's Keri Schulte, the only conference runner to beat Fox this season.

Her 41st place 18:44 5-kilometer run placed Fox just a few seconds and six places off all-American status. The race came on a day a Midwestern cold snap broke. The morning of the race, skies were clear and the temperature was in the 50s.

The race finished Fox's brilliant cross country career at Oberlin. Twice, she's been the conference champion and three times, she's run in the national meet.

In 1994, Fox finished 123rd in the nation and in 1995, she finished 65th.

"She did herself proud, she did her team proud and she did her school proud," coach Tom Mulligan said.

Fox has won nine conference championships in cross country and indoor and outdoor track.
