Arts...Out of Town celebrates performance art this week. Whether you need a break from midterm studying or need something to do when you're stuck here over Fall Break, there's a plethora of activities to choose from. Get up and get out.

The Candle Lit is playing at the Cleveland Public Theater, Cleveland's "source of alternative performance," from Oct. 25 through Nov. 16. For tickets and more information call (216) 631-2727.

The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, is being performed at the Cleveland Play House through Oct. 27, Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. For more information and tickets call (216) 229-2838.

The Cleveland Chamber Symphony will give a free performance on Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. in Cleveland State University's Drinko Recital Hall in Cleveland. This celebration of Cleveland composers features the Conservatory's Edward Miller's Three Songs for baritone voice and chamber ensemble as well as Philip Larson as a soloist in two pieces. FAUST, Gounod's romantic tale of a man who sold his soul to the devil in exchange for youth and love, is playing at the Cleveland Opera House Oct. 18 through 20. Dance of the Gods: Indian Art Inspired by Music, is part of "IndiaFest '96" at the Cleveland Museum of Art. The exhibit runs through Dec. 8. For more information call (216) 421-7340.

Danny Hoch, hailed as Rolling Stone's "Hot Performance Artist of the Year," brings his savvy humor to the Wexner Center for the Arts Oct. 10 through 13. For more information call (614) 292-0030.

American Indian Festival is being held at the Cleveland Public Theater Oct. 14 through 19 with a variety of different events celebrating American Indian heritage. Events differ depending on day; for more information call (216) 523-1600.

Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Neil Simon's latest Broadway hit, comes to the Cleveland Play House's Drury Theater through Nov. 17. Called "TV's golden age on the stage," writers have included Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner, Larry Gelbert and Selma Diamond in addition to Simon. For more information call (216) 795-7000.

Culturefest '96 is being held Oct. 19 and 20 at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. Cleveland's cultural history will come alive through dance, music, storytelling and other events, held in conjunction with the Museum's 75th anniversary. Costa Rica is the new exhibit at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, which runs through Jan. 5, 1997. Numerous pre-Columbian artifacts are on exhibit. For more information call (216) 231-4600.
