Welcome back to Oberlin. Though the first week of classes just finished, it's about time to leave and explore the cultural Eden that is around our lovely campus. Please find a way to get out of town. You'll be glad you did.

The Phantom of the Opera is coming to Cleveland's State Theatre April 18 through May 25. Tickets go on sale Sept. 16, and prices will range from $16-$66. For more information call (216) 771-4444.

Cats, the classic Broadway show, runs at the State Theatre in Cleveland Sept. 17-22. Tickets and information are available at (216) 771-4444.

Alan Jackson plays the Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls September 28 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $22 purchased through Ticketmaster at (216) 241-5555.

Assassins is a play described as a "controversial and surreal dissection of political assassination in America." Shows run from October 4-20 at the Lakeland Theatre in Kirtland. For tickets and information call (216) 953-7034.

Urban Evidence: Contemporary Artists Reveal Cleveland is an exhibit featuring international artists who celebrate Cleveland in its bicentennial year. The exhibit is at the Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art, Cleveland through October 27. For information call (216) 421-8671.

The Warbling Carousel, a play that explores the UFO/alien abduction phenomenon and human-alien contact, runs at the Cleveland Public Theatre Thursdays through Saturdays through the end of September..Tickets are $12; call (216) 631-2727 for more information.

Angels and Insects is a British movie that was selected for main competition at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival. Naturalist and explorer William Adamson returns penniless from the Amazon to find an unlikely patron and love in an aristocratic family with a weird history. The film shows Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. at the Stocker Center Cinema Hall in Elyria. Tickets are $4, for more information call (216) 366-4040.

Artists' Marks is the new exhibit at the FAVA Gallery in Oberlin. It runs Sept. 15 through Oct. 10, and admission is free. The FAVA Gallery is now located in the New Union Center For The Arts on 39 Main Street.

La Tristeza Complice is "the talk of the European dance theater scene." 10 Accordians and 13 multinational performers tell the tale of an urban "netherworld" and today's young urban culture. It runs at the Thurber Theatre at Drake Union Oct. 15-16. For more information call (216) 292-2354.

The Drive-In Surreal Film Festival in North Ridgeville features classic surreal and cult films from the late 19th century through the 1950's. Admission is $4 in advance and $5 at the gate. For further information call (614) 299-7353.
