Cleveland Rocks

So, I think it is time that I clear the air. Several people have asked me what that “C” in C-Town stands for. So, my faithful audience, let the record stand that I am from Cleveland — not Columbus, Cincinnati or even the “Windy City” Chicago. That’s right. I am from the “Mistake on the Lake” located approximately 30 miles northeast of Oberlin College.

Now I know that some people may not care about the sports scene in Cleveland, but the whole world needs to be on the lookout. Sure, we have had several years of winless seasons, team owners leaving and star players taking million-dollar contracts elsewhere. But now is Cleveland’s time to shine.

The Cleveland Browns are up and rising. Last year, the Browns rose through the conference and were one game shy of making the playoffs. Next year looks only more promising. With the acquisition of Shaun Rogers and several other big-time players, the Browns look to roll right to the playoffs this year.

The Cleveland Indians have always been my favorite baseball team. Even though I hate the mascot, the Indians have  always been my team. Last year, the team won the American League Central but lost to the Boston Red Sox for the American League Title. With not too many changes occurring during the off-season, it seems that they have a great shot at repeating the success.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are hands down the most underrated team in the NBA. Why that is, I don’t know. With a player like LeBron James leading the way, people should begin to expect more from the Cavs. Recently involved in an 11-player deal that landed the likes of Ben Wallace, Delonte West, Wally Szczerbiak and Joe Smith, the Cavs have a great chance of repeating an Eastern Conference Championship.

The Lake Erie Monsters, the recently added hockey team, are off and running in their first year. Despite not being ranked that high in the conference, the team has been playing well. Hopefully, in the future, the team will do even better.

As anyone can see, Cleveland is on the rise — no longer is it the “Mistake on the Lake.” Cleveland is looking to be a contender city that has to be reckoned with in all sports. Additionally, Cleveland fans are die-hard. No matter how much  snow falls around the city, Cleveland fans will sit through the end of games to watch their Browns. You will see them slushing through to make it to the Cavs games. That is why that song written by  Ian Hunter sums it up the best: CLEVELAND ROCKS!
