The women’s lacrosse team has instilled the fear of death into their last three opponents. The women produced stellar performances against top-notch conference teams Kenyon and Allegheny, giving them a run for their money, as well as ripping apart Notre Dame College on Saturday, April 22.

With a three game home streak entering the game against the Allegheny Gators last Saturday, the Yeowomen were searching for a conference win. First-year juggernaut Lela Hull and the consistent sophomore Kaitlin Barrer, led the charge against the Gators with four and three goals respectively. Sophomore Ashley Allen, though in her first year as a goalie, had yet another steel curtain performance coming just shy of another 20-save game. Despite these impressive performances and multiple goals from senior field generals Meg Reitz and Beth Sebian, the ladies came up short and lost 14-11.

Following the Saturday loss, the Yeowomen kept their heads high Monday against Notre Dame College. Fans became a little nervous after a slow start, which saw them trail 5-1 at one point. However, Yeowomen did not falter under pressure. Keeping their heads cool, the team burst into flames and finished the first half trailing by one. The tremendous three of Hull, Barrer and Sebian had their usual offensive blitzkrieg, but the kicker for the Yeowomen was sophomore Beth “The Stallion” Gula, who had an explosive four-goal game. With Gula stepping it up, the OC ran away with a 16-11 victory. “Beth just had an outstanding game at the exact time we needed it. She’s clutch, all champions are,” commented Sebian on her young teammate’s exquisite performance.

Riding fast and confident, the Yeowomen stormed into their Wednesday game against the much disliked Kenyon College. With pride in their hearts and victory on the mind the barnstormers of the OC fought like no other before them. Barrer yet again was the fan favorite as she showcased an incredible eight-goal game.

Supported by multiple goal performances from Hull, Sebian, Reitz and first-year Dana Rich, the game ended at regulation in a 20-20 tie. Exhausted and with only one sub, the Yeowomen were outlasted by Kenyon 24-21 in overtime.

“Listen, we worked our butts off out there and if we were to meet them again survival would be their only goal,” a pleased but not yet satisfied Sebian expressed.

The team hopes to feed off their success from the past three games, learn from their mistakes and finish strong in their last game of the season at Wittenberg, at 7 p.m.
