Class Council Statements

The Review did not publish the statements for class officers last week, but in publishing the winners this week we can effectively introduce you to the original candidates: All seven won positions in their respective class councils.

Sophomore Class Council:

President: Rachel Brender
I would love to be given the opportunity to represent the class of 2009 in Student Council. In high school I served as Student Council President for three years and this past June, I received two leadership awards for my efforts. For the past three years, I have organized class speakers, assemblies, dances and community service events. I have the experience and I can promise to make a great difference in your year!

First Vice-President: Emelio DiSabato
I shall serve you, the soon-to-be sophomore class, as an active leader. My leadership qualifications can be seen in my various roles around campus. I am the Co-founding “Scrabble Pope” of the almost-fully-established Oberlin S.C.R.A.B.B.L.E. Club, I will be an R.A. in Fairkid next year and most importantly, I drive the student shuttle three nights a week, tirelessly campaigning against the horrors of Cold Stumbling Home Who Lives Far Away Syndrome.

Second Vice-President: Erin Child
Class Officers are essentially social planners. Though the position isn’t ostensibly political, a class officer can bring our class together, and unified, we have more political clout. I want to unite students from traditional dorms, co-ops and program houses, so we can act on issues that are important to us (like off-campus housing). Now is the time to create the building blocks we will need in the future and I’m the officer for the job.

Junior Class Council:

President: Zoe Fisher
Sixty-five words to describe my qualifications for Junior Class Officer: art history major, obsessive organization minor, Dorm Host Coordinator for the Admissions Office, Reserve Room Assistant in Mudd (no stapler, but lots of love), DLEC in Pyle Inn Co-op, treasurer and tampon performance artist for the Baldwin Collective for Women & Transgender People (yes, men are welcome!), Peer Liaison, Mellon Undergraduate Intern, general enthusiasm for pretty much everything (you) — I love to talk; let’s chat.

Senior Class Council

President: Matthew Kaplan
Hello Fellow Classmates and Peers. Do you like President Clinton, Jon Stewart, Oberlin’s own Ed Helms or even a little Sherrod Brown? I will work tirelessly to get the person YOU WANT FOR COMMENCEMENT! I plan to continue our class’ already established Habitat for Humanity projects, town-gown dinners, class building events, and many more programs to help bring together our class. Go out...vote for Kaplan...and together we will make this happen.

First Vice-President: Tatteh Kwao Morton
My name is Tatteh Kwao Morton, a rising senior from Ghana, West Africa. I am an economics and politics double major. I have been an active participant in activities that bring the diverse people of our campus community together. I organize and participate in intramural sports (including soccer, cricket and basketball) and I am the public relations liaison for the African Students Associations. I hope to get your vote as senior class officer.

Second Vice-President: Evan “Bear” Kittay
I’m Bear, senior history major from NY. I would LOVE to be your class president and have experience as president freshman and sophomore year. I have gotten to know the infrastructure of Oberlin and want to throw SPECTACULAR events for our senior year! Our class is amazing and we deserve to have amazing music, campus-wide festivities and fun to leave Oberlin with a BIG BANG! Vote for me and we’ll have a BLAST in 2007!
