Volleyball anticipates conference matchups

Although the Yeowomen volleyball team has continuously fought for victory, they have fallen short of their goals. With injuries a common locker room topic, the girls are determined to seize a triumph.

Traveling to Denison on Wednesday, Sept. 28, the team competed in their first conference game of the season, losing 30-15, 30-16, and 30-17. Senior captain Katie Au had expressed her anticipation for the game. “I’m excited to start conference play. October 6 is when we begin a stream of home matches, so everyone should come support!” said Au with enthusiasm.

The Yeowomen have had about a week straight of practices without any games. When asked if they have been doing any special training, Au responded, “We have been aiming our practices to match up against specific teams.”

The first-years on the team are antsy for a win but are feeling the stresses of the season. First-year middle hitter Isabella Gambuto explained, “Everyone on the team is awesome. It’s a lot of work and a big time commitment but in the end it is worth it.”

Senior outside hitter Jeanne Feuerstein, who has always been a force to be reckoned with, is ready for the recognition. “I deserve to be in the paper more,” claimed Feuerstein, who is hoping the publicity will flourish once they gain some conference wins.

The Yeowomen leave Friday night to head to Indiana where they will face the Earlham Quakers. In previous seasons, the two teams have always come close, but the Quakers seem to steal a win at the last possible moment. “Not this year!” exclaimed Au.
