Head volleyball coach resigns

Head women’s volleyball coach Kristen Surovjak has announced that she will resign as of March 15 to pursue other opportunities in higher education. Joey Chen has been named interim coach. Chen has been the assistant head coach for the previous three seasons, two of which were spent as a student assistant coach.

Surovjak coached the volleyball team for four seasons, compiling an overall record of 15-107. Her best season came in 2003 when the team had a record of 10-21. In her time at Oberlin, Surovjak was also an assistant coach for the women’s basketball and lacrosse teams.

“Throughout my experience at Oberlin, I have developed a great appreciation for the spirit of the institution through my interactions with students, colleagues and the campus community,” Surovjak said. “I have had the great opportunity to work with an exceptional group of young women and I wish them the best of success in the future.”

Chen, a 2004 Oberlin graduate, was the president and coach for the men’s club volleyball team for three years.
