Yeomen players were disappointed on Wednesday afternoon as their season came to an end with a tough 1-0 loss to Allegheny College in the NCAC tournament semi-finals. With 25:58 left in the first half of play, junior Alan Carr of the Allegheny Gators scored on an assist by David Roberts, giving his team the only goal they would need for victory.

The Gators seemed to control most of the game, taking more shots and dominating possession time in the first half. The Yeomen responded, as they came out enthused in the second half.

The Yeomen didn’t waste anytime as they attacked Allegheny’s field side, with multiple shot attempts. But with 42:02 remaining in the second half, senior forward Josh Treuhaft was injured.

The game continued to spark for Oberlin as they controlled most of the ball possession in the second half, but without the help of Treuhaft they were unable to come up with a goal. The Yeomen gave it all they had, making it a challenge for the Gators to hold their 1-0 lead.

Despite their season coming to an end, the Yeomen battled all year, ending with a NCAC record of 6-1-4, which was good for second in the conference.

“We made one mistake that we hadn’t made since the third game of the season; it ended up costing us. Other than that, the game was even, back and forth,” said Head Coach Blake New.

“Obviously we are disappointed, but we got to keep our heads up and be proud of the fact that we had a great season, and build from there. These seven seniors have been the cornerstone of our program for the last four years, and they are the first senior class in over four years to graduate over .500. That’s very impressive for a team that was 1-15 five years ago, so we have come a long way.”

“It’s a gateway to a bright future because there wasn’t a team this year we shouldn’t have beat. No one out-played us the whole season,” said first-year Kyle Taljan. “We got unlucky today, we’re just going to keep getting better and next year, the sky is the limit.”

According to Taljan,“The seniors this year led a great foundation for us, showed us how to do it, seven great guys who lead us and we’re going to pick it out from here on out.”

Allegheny College is now 5-7-1 in the NCAC; they will be facing the winner of the Wittenberg and Ohio Wesleyan match-up in the NCAC finals.
