OCXC runs amuck

On Oct. 7, the Oberlin men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to Delaware, Ohio to compete in the Division III branch of The All-Ohio Championships. The event, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University, featured a hilly, five-kilometer course for women and an eight-kilometer course for the men.

This all-conference meet featured big name schools such as Denison University, Case Western Reserve University, Kenyon College and the College of Wooster. The Yeowomen stunned the opponents with their second place finish.

Sophomore Alison Doniger led the Yeowomen with a third place finish, covering the 5,000 meter course in 19:18 minutes. Junior Ariane Burwell and sophomore Marie Barnett followed closely, with times of 19:44 and 20:11 respectively.

“The girls did totally gnarly. Even though it was a tough course, they still managed to succeed,” commented junior runner Mat Gordon.

The Yeowomen finished only 32 points behind the reigning champion, Denison University.

The Yeomen raced to a tenth place effort. Junior Travis Grout paced the Yeomen, finishing with a time of 27:04.3. Junior John Shaw and sophomore Andrew Pike followed in suit, crossing the line with a finish of 28:44.7 and 28:46.0, respectively.

Oberlin hosts a tri meet next Saturday against Kenyon College and Ohio Wesleyan University.
