The College has named Eric Estes as the new head of the Multicultural Resource Center. He will be filling the position left open after the death of Rachel Beverly last fall.

Estes currently works at Duke University where he is Chair of the President’s Task Force on Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Matters. He has also taught courses on “The Politics of Sexuality “Sports in Modern Society” and “Women in 20th Century Europe.” He graduated as a Fullbright Scholar from Trinity College and earned his Ph. D. in Modern European history from Syracuse.

Estes recently visited campus, where he was interviewed by faculty and met with Acting Dean of Students Linda Gates.

“He’s a very dynamic person,” Gates said. “I was very impressed. He’s lively and energetic and very personable and easy to be with. He’s absolutely exciting for this position.”

Estes will start his new position in June.

The College also plans to announce a replacement for departing associate Dean of Students Bill Stackman in the next few weeks.
